Whatever became of ‘healing’? If we look at the definition of the word, it simply means “the process of making or becoming sound or healthy again.” But in days gone by there was a whole bigger notion of spiritual healing, meaning: a holistic approach to restoring balance to the mind, body, and spirit by engaging divine, universal, or natural energies to shift emotional awareness, heal lost trauma, and fix dysfunctional belief systems. Whatever became of that?
It used to be if you asked someone about their ‘healing journey’, they knew what you meant and had something to say. Indeed, the entire notion of making yourself a better person and restoring balance wherever imbalance might be found was an underlying theme in society. This came at a time of abandoning religions forced on folks in childhood and seeking new paths forward. It was a time of opening and discovery and gaining new insight.
These days it feels like the middle dropped out and nothing can be said about healing journeys anymore. On one extreme end, there are people who start screaming about being ‘woke’, like it’s some horrible disease. These people are usually narcissists that peaked in high school and never had an energy shift or new awareness throughout their whole lives. On the other extreme end, there are those who had one shift and followed it so far that they’ve created a new dysfunctional belief system that they feel inspired to clue you in on — and they’ve got something to sell you. Either way, realistic discussions die and we’re all left trying to find balance alone.
The idea of these ‘Healing wRites’ comes from that. It’s a new category in this Amokshado Blog. It’s a place where I’ll get more personal than the other categories and share some of my insights. Writing has been a large part of my healing journey. My autobiographical fiction book called ThunderBird Walking — written over 10 years ago now — was a magical realism take on my spiritual journey. This Amokshado Media website was meant to be something of a next step, but it got sidetracked by life’s hiccups including the pandemic.
I’ve folded the Travel EyeQ category into this Healing wRites one because journeys of place run parallel to journey of spirit. I’ve haven’t done much traveling since the pandemic and that category largely died. I’ll also be moving some things around here and creating a new front to this site focusing on the ‘media’ aspect by adding other media and writing. The blogs will have a new home page but still the same subscription feed.
I do this because I’m in need of a new path these days too. I’m trying to get back to a place before the great upheavals of the last many years including an auto accident last year that sidelined me for a time. Perhaps renewal isn’t possible anymore, but in my younger days life often felt impossible and embracing a healing journey gave me a path to follow. Maybe these Healing wRites will help light the way, becoming a healing ritual towards a better place.
